Privacy Policy

This policy explains what humanlag collects when you use the site, why, and what control you have. humanlag is operated by Cellarage Ventures LLC, the data controller. Questions go to contact@humanlag.com.
What stays on your device
Your personal bests, your chosen language, and a few settings are kept in your browser's local storage. This stays on your device, is not sent to us, and you can clear it at any time from your browser.
What we record
When you finish a test, we record the first completed run per device, per test, per day to build the site's own score curves: the test, the score, how long the run took as your browser measured it (counted from the moment the test was ready, so it can include the wait before you started), whether the device has a touch screen, the page language, whether it was a first run, whether sound was on, a hash of a device identifier, and a hash of your network address. Both hashes are mixed with the same secret, which changes daily and is deleted after two days; from then on neither can be tied to a device, to a network address, or to another day. We keep the network hash for one purpose only: to spot a flood of fake scores and undo it. We do not record your name or your email, and your network address itself is never stored with your results. If you create or join a challenge, the nickname you pick and your score are stored so the ranking works, with a random identifier that acts as your key to that challenge. Like most sites, our host keeps standard server logs, which can include IP addresses, to keep the service running and secure; those logs are not combined with your test results.
Advertising
humanlag is supported by advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar identifiers to serve and measure ads, including ads informed by your earlier visits to this and other sites. You can review and control how Google uses this data at
Google's partner-sites page and in your
Google ad settings.
Your consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are set, through a consent banner built on the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework and Google's consent signals. You can grant, refuse, or change your choice at any time. Refusing locks you out of nothing: you will simply see non-personalized advertising, or fewer ads.
Cookies
We do not set our own tracking cookies. The settings that make the site work live in local storage, not in cookies. Advertising cookies, where you have allowed them, are set by Google as described above.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to some processing. Because the test records are pseudonymous and become unlinkable after two days, we often cannot single out one person's rows, but we will help wherever we can. To make a request, email
contact@humanlag.com.
Children
humanlag is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age set by local law. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes, for instance when advertising or analytics settings change. The date at the top marks the latest revision.
